TechCrunch:
On Tuesday, the company announced that it’s beginning to test ad placements in its search results pages, allowing advertisers to reach users as they search for products, recommendations, and other information on its platform.
We have fewer users to monetize, so let’s upset them more by cramming more ads into their experience.
I spent sixteen years on the business side of podcasting. When podcast networks want to make their shows generate more money, they have two options:
- Grow the show. This might mean making the show better, or finding new audiences, running paid promotions for it, etc — anything that can get the show in front of more listeners, which means they can sell bigger packages to advertisers.
- Cram more ads into each episode. This, inevitably, has the effect of annoying listeners more, and making them (far!) more inclined to skip ads, making ad performance worse over time, and depressing total listenership.
Only dummies choose option two. Reddit is a dummy.
